For over 43 years, Edward Peach has been making pianos sound their best for various musical artists, churches, and individuals alike. He finds it humorous that his trainer when first getting started had been tuning for 45 years, and now he is only two years away from that milestone himself! For the latter portion of his 43 years, his son Brandon has been assisting him and perfecting the trade himself. Being a pastor, Mr. Peach and his family have moved countless times, and in each new location, he makes his mark as an accomplished piano tuner. While tuning has, in fact, become somewhat of a lost art due to the rise of keyboards and electric pianos, Mr. Peach feels that the need will always be there as “nothing can replace the old acoustic pianos! They just have an entirely different sound to them.”
A-1 Piano Service tunes anything from upright pianos and baby grands, all the way to self-playing instruments, and anything in between. To be sure that the best care has been taken and utmost accuracy has been achieved, Mr. Peach tunes using both his highly trained ear and electronic tuning equipment. Like any trade requiring a special “touch”, piano tuning almost certainly requires a rock solid ear for pitches and overtones, although electronic equipment is welcomed for its accuracy. The marriage of both methods makes his tuning the best of both worlds. In addition to tuning, they also offer minor piano repairs such as string replacement, pedal repair, and action adjustment.
Contrary to popular belief, the playing of the instrument has the least amount of effect on it’s losing tune. Weather change and long distance moving are the two biggest contributors to a piano losing tune. For this reason, the piano manufacturers highly recommend that a piano be tuned each quarter, to change with the weather of the seasons. In Mr. Peach’s experience, he recommends a minimum of twice a year. Once in the start of the cold seasons, and once in the start of the warm. Also, after any long distance move, you should have your piano serviced and retuned.
A-1 Piano Service has had the pleasure of providing tuning and minor repair services to thousands of clients over the years. Some of Mr. Peach’s most notable work includes tuning for Jimmy Swaggart, Marvin Gaye, Ronnie Milsap, Barbara Mandrell, Bill Gaither, Janet Paschal, B.B. King, Prince, and Ozzy Osbourne. He has also been the staff tuner for various coliseums, music centers, and school systems over the years. Mr. Peach stands by the company’s motto, “As good as the best, and better than the rest!” He and his family currently reside in Madison, NC, and attend a church in Martinsville, VA.
